Builder Advice

There are a number of key sources of advice and information that are useful to builders, some of which are only discovered by chance in a conversation with another builder.

The sources below are listed in an endeavour to point users to potentially useful sources of information. Inclusion on this page should not be taken as an endorsement of the source.

The Factory

It goes almost without saying that the key source of advice is the Europa Factory who can be contacted by phone, fax or email as advised to all builders.

The Factory also publish a quarterly newsletter which contains a great deal of useful information.

The Club

The Club provide three sources of advice and information:

  1. The online Forum, which is open to non-members as well as members, is often used to exchange tips, or find out if anyone has had a similar problem and how they resolved it.
The Forum's searchable online archive may also be queried to see if a topic has been discussed in the past before asking a question.
FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) for the Forum are also available on this web site.

  2. Dave Watts has compiled a Hints and Tips booklet of useful snippets culled from the factory newsletters, Club newsletters and the Forum. This is available from the Membership Secretary.

  3. The Club newsletter, Europa Flyer, contains Europa-related advertisements, as well as many useful articles.

The Matronics Email Lists

As well as the Club's own Forum, a number of lists managed by Matronics are useful to Europa builders. In particular, the Aero-Electric list has an excellent reputation for providing information on designing, installing and maintaining aircraft electrical systems, mostly provided by the renowned Bob Nuckolls.

There is also a Europa-specific list, as well as one on engines that may be of use.

To subscribe to these lists, please visit Matronics' web site.

Your National Homebuilding Body

Your national body (please see our Regulatory Bodies page if you are unsure of yours) may well be able to supply you with a list of recommended books and other information on building composite aircraft.

In some countries it is mandatory to register a kit with the national body before construction begins anyway, and such information may be be offered at this time.

Your Local Homebuilding Groups

Many homebuilder associations have a network of local groups (for example, in the UK there are the PFA Struts, while in the US there are the EAA Chapters) which are full of people willing to offer advice and sometimes even assistance to other homebuilders. To find your local group, please contact your national homebuilding body.

Other Builders

As well as other builders in your local area, or who you have contacted through the list distributed by the factory, a number of builders maintain web sites about their builds. If you have a problem, and suspect you won't be the first to have it, check these out - you might just find the answer, and you'll probably pick up some useful tips while you're looking.

Please see our Owner Web Sites page for a list of all individual Europa sites that we know about.
