Flying experience

PPL with lapsed IMC rating.
500 hours on various single engine types including PA28, C172, C152, J3 Cub, Chipmunk, prior to my Europa.

I lived in Kenya for 7 years and owned a Reims Rocket (a C172 with a 210hp engine with VP prop) which I flew to Zimbabwe and South Africa a number of times. In the UK I have owned a Cherokee 235 for about 5 years, based at Shoreham  I now have 20 hours on the Europa.

Special skills/experience

I was an avionic CAA licensed engineer for many years then joined the management ranks, eventually becoming Chief Engineer, Aircraft maintenance for British Airways, Engineering Director of British Caledonian and Operations Director of Air Europe before going to Kenya as the Chief Executive of Kenya Airways.

I am now semi-retired and spend my time doing consulting work in the aviation industry and designing, building and maintaining a single-seat racing car in between flying my Europa.

Locality

My Europa is based at Dunsfold, which a great place as long as you don’t mind fitting in with Top Gear presenters screaming down the runway and the making of Bond movies.

Aircraft, and current status

My Europa is kit 454 and took 5 years to build as a Monowheel XS. After about 20 hours flying I decided to convert it to a Trigear. That conversion is just about finished so I should be back in the air for Spring 2007.
